Crawley Town 2-0 Grimsby Town

First-half goals from Danilo Orsi and Klaidi Lolos put Crawley into the League Two play-offs with a 2-0 home victory over Grimsby.

The Red Devils sealed a seventh-placed finish with a first win in five games to set up a two-legged semi-final with MK Dons.

Crawley finished the regular season with 21 wins, 10 more than when they narrowly avoided relegation last term.

Crawley boss Scott Lindsey described his side's season-defining clash as the most important of his managerial career, coming a year after he saved the club from relegation.

The hosts enjoyed a big let-off after only nine minutes when the unmarked Cameron Gardner blazed over from six yards after a cross by Denver Hume.

Mariners skipper Kieran Green also put a low header wastefully wide before top-scorer Orsi put Crawley ahead with his 21st goal of the season.

The former Grimsby striker poked the ball home from close range after 24 minutes following a cross to the back post by Jeremy Kelly.

Lolos doubled the advantage 12 minutes later when he fired into the corner past goalkeeper Jake Eastwood for his fourth goal in five games.

Grimsby threatened shortly after the interval when Hume shot wastefully over from a good position.

Neither side created anything of note in the second half and at the final whistle news of draws for both Barrow and Crewe triggered a pitch invasion at the Broadfield Stadium as Crawley celebrated reaching the play-offs for the first time as a league club.

    Grimsby made a HUGE MISTAKE in letting Orsi go. He’s been incredible all season. He was never given a chance at The Mariners.

    Whole of Blundell Park were scratching their heads at Orsi not getting a game. Especially after his Fa cup performances. I was really disappointed and dumbfounded that we let him go. Well done Danilo for showing Paul Hurst for the fraud he is. Well done Crawley couldn’t believe you were favourites for relegation. Good luck in the playoffs.

      Paul Hurst is a fraud? He signed Danny Rose and manages a team in the league above us and they weren't involved in a relegation fight every match. Try and concentrate on the here and now - unless you want another season of the tripe we've just suffered. We won't have Forest Green and Sutton to protect us next season, so Dave Artell is going to have to improve massively. Up The Mariners!

    We should finish with Awards Of The Season. The Top 3 weren't just up there in points, their goal difference proved they were in another league already. Next 4 were quality too, unlucky Bradford and Barrow, strong effort and you can do it next season. My club of the season is Doncaster Rovers, because they started off living in the slums with us, then looked rocket assisted as they shot up. UTM!

    Just read "After securing our place in the EFL last weekend, we can now look ahead to a new season in Sky Bet League Two and a chance to progress under Head Coach David Artell". What progress? And we are also told prices will be frozen. Please someone, just shoot me or I will keep going...

    Having just scraped to safety, another loss was a predictable end to a miserable season.
    Wholesale changes needed at Grimsby: hope Artell knows what he is doing.

    GTFC! GTFC! It was a calamity of a season. We pulled off some great results, followed by a lot of horrible turnouts. We conceded 74 goals and scored the second fewest goals in the bottom 12. What worried most is how, with the same set of players, we could batter a team one week and collapse like a deck chair the next time out. To me, that means the problem is upstairs. God bless us all.     We rode our luck early on, but the footballing gods were kind to us today. After our draw last week at Sutton, I thought there was no way back - and our equaliser came very late. Fine margins - as they say.
