Stoke City boss Nathan Jones could be on the verge of losing his job ahead of their clash with Nottingham Forest according to Sky Sports News presenter Rob Dorsett.
Jones’ position at Stoke is under increasing pressure, with the Potters having taken just two points from their opening eight league games of the season and they are also out of the Carabao Cup after a penalty shoot out defeat to Crawley Town.
He has today been pulled from their pre-match press conference and instead his number two took the reins and answered questions from the media.
Despite their huge problems it was reported by Dorsett that Jones would not be relieved of his duties ahead of their game ahead with Forest but they are extremely concerned by their recent results.
Arriving from Luton Town this year, Jones had a very good CV but he has struggled since moving to the Bet365 Stadium and the club’s board are losing patience with the manager, who has won just four of his 32 games in charge of the Potters.
According to reports, Jones’ absence has been put down to a tight schedule for the Stoke boss, who is apparently set to have lunch with club chairman Peter Coates – which is said to be a weekly occurrence as well as Jones being expected to carry out the television interviews he is obliged to fulfil, with the game at Forest set to be broadcast on Sky Sports.
However, it doesn’t look good for the Potters’ boss who also believes that the game against Forest could be crucial to saving his job.
With much of the limelight on Jones it may be a wise move to keep him away from intense scrutiny which he is bound to face ahead of an already ‘must win’ Championship game even at this early stage of the season.
