Town Ball 21 in FA Cup Draw
Thursday, 17th Oct 2019 10:28

Town will be ball number 21 in Monday’s draw for the first round of the FA Cup.

The first-round draw will take place from 7pm live on BBC2 at the home of either Royston Town or Maldon & Tiptree, who meet in a fourth qualifying round tie on Saturday, and will be carried out by Karen Carney, a winner of the Women’s FA Cup on five occasions, and ex-Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford.

The 32 non-league sides who emerge victorious from this weekend's fourth qualifying round will go into the hat along with 47 teams from Leagues One and Two.

Due to Bury’s expulsion, one side will be given a bye through to round two but will be given the £36,000 prize money which goes to all round one winners.

The Blues will be playing at the first round stage of the competition they won in 1978 for the first time since the 1956/57 campaign when they defeated Hastings United 4-0 at Portman Road.

Town last won an FA Cup tie back in January 2010 when they beat Blackpool 2-1 in the third round at Bloomfield Road during Roy Keane’s time in charge.

Since then they have played 14 matches in the competition, four draws and 10 defeats.

Last season they were beaten 1-0 by Sunday’s opponents Accrington Stanley at the Crown Ground.

Last season everything conspired against us and all our luck was bad.

This season is different on so many levels.

I can feel a bye coming on, another free Saturday and 36k thank you very much :-)

Why a bye I wonder? Woudn't it have been better to include another non-league team?

@ cornishblu

The problem for us travelling is that if we are away to Tinpot Utd we'll probably only get about 200 tickets!

I wonder when the last time was that Town were the highest-placed team in an FA Cup draw - 1980/81?

We would get at least 800 at Harrogate.
