Quartet Offered Chance to Stay With Town
Friday, 4th Jun 2021 19:46

TWTD understands U23s quartet Levi Andoh, Bailey Clements (pictured), Tommy Hughes and Ben Morris have all been offered the chance to remain with the Blues for 2021/22.

All four are out of contract this summer but with Town having options to keep them for a further season.

Amsterdam-born right-back or central defender Andoh, 21, joined the Blues in January 2020 and made what's so far his only senior appearance in the Papa John’s Trophy tie at Crawley last November.

Left-back or centre-half Clements, 20, came through the academy and played his only first-team game in the Carabao Cup tie at Luton in August 2019.

Midfielder Hughes missed virtually all of 2020/21 through injury having made his first senior appearances in the Leasing.com Trophy and FA Cup the previous season.

Striker Morris suffered his second cruciate knee ligament injury in Augusts last year and was sidelined for the whole of the campaign having only returned from his previous injury late the season before. Morris, 21, has made first-team start and three sub appearances.

As previously reported, midfielder Liam Gibbs has been offered a new contract which he is still to sign with his current terms not including an option for an additional year.

Interesting if true. Seems like PC is literally telling everyone to prove themselves, which is almost certainly a good thing.

Does this mean that some other U-23s have been released? Simpson, for example?

@arc. Pretty sure Simpson has another year on his deal so it would be a surprise if we released him.

Glad to hear this as there has been only positive comments about these players. I really hope Morris can get a chance as there is a natural goal scorer in there and we all know our track record for letting them go is

Morris and Hughes need to go out on loan although im not sure if any football league club would take them possibly National league . Bailey Clements for me lacks a yard of pace to really make it at first team level. First team places don't just fall into your lap you have to work for them as did Downes and Wolfenden at Luton and Swindon respectively. Spare a thought for young Nydam who must very unlucky to be released on reading this unless he's got some underlying injury problems.

Linkboy13 - totally agree re Nydam. If no underlying injury then disgraceful to not give him the chance to prove himself after such a bad injury. Surely any employee deserves that.

The idea Morris is worth another year but Nydam wasn't is puzzling. Nothing against Morris btw, glad he's been given the chance to recover but Nydam is was ahead of him in terms of being ready for first team football. There has to be more to his release than we've been told

Good balance to the squad if we keep most of our youngsters and get in some proven professionals who've won something. High standards.

I hope these boys are ready to get their fill of Papa John's Pizza and Caraboa Energy drinks next season. I need to drink 4 cans of Caraboa Energy drink to stay away for the penalty shoot out which is about the only bit worth watching!
